The gases which are soluble in rain water and hence form acid are
Sulphur dioxide (SO2) and oxides of nitrogen, that is, nitrous oxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide etc.
After reacting with rainwater, the above mentioned gases form different acids such as sulphurous acid, sulphuric acid, nitrous acid, nitric acid etc and fall on the earth as acid rain
