The government of Mumbai was the first to have followed the education of accountancy first. (option 3)
- Previously, the Provincial Governments were charged with the responsibility of conducting the examinations. The Government of Mumbai was the first to execute the conducting of the courses of study. By passing the examination of the Government Diploma in Accountancy (G. D. A.) conducted by the Mumbai Government, the qualification of being an auditor was obtained.
- Till 1932, it was the concern of the Provincial Government to prepare qualified auditors. Thereafter the Auditors' Certificate Rules, 1932, the Central Government established an Indian Accountancy Board. Under its rules, Registered Accountants (R. A.) could work as qualified auditors. With the new developments and with the growth of the accountancy profession, there emerged a growing demand for the autonomy of auditors in India.
- Based on the Desai Committee's recommendations, a bill was brought to Parliament and the Chartered Accountants Act was passed and enforced on 1st July. 1949. On 1st July. 1949, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was set up as an autonomous body This institute holds its examination twice a year ie., every May and November.
