Hydrogen Halide will give precipitate with AgNO3 and the precipitate is soluble in NH4OH is Hydrochloric Acid (HCl).

The reaction goes as follows:

\boxed{\sf{HCl + AgNO_{3} \rightarrow AgCl (\downarrow) + HNO_{3}}}

This is a test for Halide Ions and helps in differentiating between chloride, bromide and iodide ions ;

Here AgCl formed as a product appears as a white precipitate , but after addition of Ammonium-Hydroxide (NH4OH) , the precipitate dissolves.

Hence , a colourless solution is obtained after addition of NH4OH.

Hope It Helps.
