A seismograph is used for measuring earthquakes. It forms a graphical representation which when interpreted by experts gives the magnitude of the earthquake.

Galvanometer is used for measuring electric current, manometer for measuring pressure, dynamometer for measuring output of engines and periscope for viewing objects and not getting in their line of sight.
