Question:
Which of the following is a property of an acid?
Answer :
(a) sour taste
Explanation:
As we know that the odour of acids are sour in nature. When we take a solution of acid as a sample in test tube and dissolve a blue litmus in the solution, it turns red in colour. The acids are of two types are as follows as:
- Organic Acids : These are the acids which we get from organic materials like vegetables and animals. Just like sulphuric acid from sulphur.
- Inorganic Acids or Mineral Acids : These are the acids which we get from minerals and in inorganic substances. Just like citric acid from lemon.
The inorganic acid is more stronger than organic acid so that we are able to taste organic acid which we get from fruits and curds are citric acid and lactic acid respectively. Minerals acids are mostly dangerous than organic acids because of higher concentration of Hydrogen ions on it. It causes exothermic reaction during its dilution process.
