Vector quantity is the physical quantity that has both magnitudes as well as direction.
It is represented by the arrow line whose direction same as that of the quantity and the magnitude is equal to that of quantity magnitude. It has magnitude as well as direction but it does not have any position. It gets affected by the change in vector space basis.
Whereas the scalar quantity has only magnitude but no direction.
For example - A person is riding a car with a velocity of 20km/hr in the North-East direction.
Some of the examples of vector quantities are -
- weight
- displacement
- velocity
- acceleration
- force
- momentum
- thrust
- friction
- pressure between solids
