The coloured portion in the cell of Nostoc is:

A) Chromoplasm

  • Nostoc is a blue green algae and is gram negative. It is a prokaryote and is photosynthetic.
  • Take a small piece of clean Nostoc and place it on a slide, add some stain to it and notice it under a microscope.
  • We can notice gelatinous colonies with heterocyst and a filamentous, unbranched, contorted and montile form.
  • Thus the specimen observed is Nostoc and the stained portion is the chromoplasm since it is a prokaryote and its contents are dipersed in the cytoplasm as it lacks organelles.
