Glycogen is known as animal starch. It is one form of body stored mostly in liver (5-6 % of liver’s fresh weight), skeletal muscles (1-2 % of muscle mass) and converted in to glucose as per body requirement. It is basically a more densely branched polymer of glucose. Glycogen is present in the form of granules in the cytosol in many types of cells. It plays very important role in the glucose cycle and able to mobilize easily during sudden need of glucose in the body.
