What qualitative research is not: Quantifiable: Surveys, even those that include open‐ended questions, are never qualitative, neither is putting numbers to frequencies of word occurrences.

Research that relies on first hand data collected by the researcher is called Qualitative research.

The researcher in this case records responses made in a completely natural setting. This can be done with the help of structured questionnaires, observations made by the researcher themself, interviews, conversations, artifacts, documents collected on the research topic etc.

The data in a qualitative result is usually non-numerical and it is sometimes based on hear-say evidence.
