TCA or TRI - Tri Carboxylic Acid pathway is not a step of Anaerobic respiration.

  1. Fermentation occurs in anaerobic conditions, i.e. in the absence of oxygen, and produces lactic acid or ethanol and carbon dioxide.
  • Lactic acid is produced in the muscle cells in absence of oxygen.
  • Along with this 2 molecules of ATP are also produced i.e. very less in comparison to aerobic respiration which leads to the production of 32 ATP.

2 Glycolysis is common to both aerobic and anaerobic respiration as         .         it is the first step of both processes.

  • Glycolysis is a process that converts 1 molecule of glucose into 2 molecules of pyruvate with the net production of 2 ATP.
  • In presence of oxygen, pyruvate enters the TCA cycle whereas, in absence of oxygen, it undergoes Fermentation.
