kgm/s² is not a unit of work (Option - A = B)

  • Work done is given by the formula W = Force(F) × displacement (s)
  • W = F × s
  • Formula for force = mass(m) × acceleration(a)
  • W = m × a × s
  • Acceleration = velocity(v)/time(t)
  • W = m × v × s/t
  • Velocity = s/t
  • W = m × s²/t²
  • Therefore, unit of work done = kgm²/s²
  • S.I unit for Force F = ma = kgm/s² , Also, called Newton(N).
  • W unit = Nm
  • S.I unit of W = Joule (J)
  • W unit can also be written as kiloJoule(kJ) calorie (cal) or kilocalorie(kcal)
  • Hence kgm/s² is the unit for Force and not for work done.
