Data gathering or collection is the process of data collection, organisation and measurement of information on research variables. Since it is a subjective process, it is prone to many errors, such as the following,

1. Sample error: Sample is a smaller group of the major group on whom the research is conducted. So there are chances of variation to occur. To reduce this, it is always better to select a large sample.

2. Instrumental error: This is caused by the lack of accuracy of the measuring instruments used. For example using the same cup to measure both solids and liquids. Using appropriate and properly calibrated instruments can avoid this type errors.

3. Subjective error: Subjective errors are caused by humans collecting data. Forgetting to record data, missing information, wrong abbreviations, researcher bias are some human errors.

4. Data errors: Outdated data, rounding off the numbers are some data errors which will affect the study outcome.
