A predator is an organism that eats another organism. The prey is the organism which the predator eats. So,a whale feeds on the zooplankton, a caterpillar feeds on the leaves and the wolf eats the deer.


But a tree obtaining nutrients from the soil is not an example of predation. It absorbs soil minerals for its growth.

Here the answer is option (b) a tree obtaining all its necessary nutrients from the soil.

It is not an example of predation since we cannot classify trees to be predators.

The other options which are given for example a whale feeding on the zooplanktons or a wolf feeding on a deer is a clear predatory example.
