Of the following (d) Methane is not used as preservatives .

  • Methane is one of the components of natural gas. It's flammable in nature. Over the world it is mainly used as a fuel. This is why methane cannot be used as food preservative. Hence, (d) is correct
  • Salt is mainly used for preservation in lot of pickles over the world. It drains out excessive moisture and enhances preservation.
  • Sugar mainly acts as preservatives in jams and jelly. Usually sugar syrup in form of liquid glucose is used as it doesn't crystallizes early.
  • Due to the presence of acetic acid in vinegar it retards the growth of microorganisms in food stuff. It doesn't comprise the flavour too.
