Fructose – mono saccharide

Starch –poly saccharide

Glucose – mono saccharide

Carbohydrates are organic compounds contain poly hydroxyl group along with either aldehyde or ketone functional group.

 

The carbohydrate is classified on the presence of ring in the structure.  

Monosaccharide carbohydrate: it contains only one ring in their structure.

Disaccharide carbohydrate: it contains two rings in their structure.

Polysaccharide carbohydrate: Polysaccharide carbohydrate contains three or more than three rings in their structure.

Mono-saccharides: The simplest carbohydrates, such as glucose, are mono-saccharides, also called simple sugars, because they contain only a single sacchride molecule.

Disaccharides: Disaccharides consist of two mono-sacchride units joined together, such as glucose and fructose linked to form sucrose (table sugar) or two glucose units to form maltose.

Polysaccharides: Polysaccharides are polymers containing many monosaccharide units, up to several thousand. For example natural starches contain about 75% amylopectin and 25% amylose, both of which are polymer of glucose units joined by glycosidic linkages
