Correct Question :- Which of the following is the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the graph of y = 2/5x − 4 ?

A. y = 2/5x − 4

B. y = −5/2x − 4

C. y = −2/5x − 4

D. y = 5/2x − 4

Solution :-

we know that,

  • slope of line in the form of y = mx + c is m .
  • when two lines are perpendicular , product of their slope is (-1) .

so,

→ y = 2/5x - 4

comparing,

→ mx + c = 2/5x - 4

→ m = 2/5 .

then,

→ slope of line perpendicular to given line = -1/slope of given line = -1 / (2/5) = (-5/2)

from options now we can see that, option (b) has slope equals to (-5/2) .

therefore, we can conclude that, (C) y = (-5/2)x − 4 is correct answer.
