The university was first set up as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental college by Sir Syad Ahmad Khan back in 1875. Later in 1920, the college was converted in to Aligarh Muslim University. The university is now operating with three off campus centers that are located in places like Bihar, West Bengal and Kerala.
