correct answer is OF4 as oxygen is restricted to s and p orbital only which contain maximum 8 electron.Since oxygen(atomic no. 8) has already 6 electron,so it make covalent bond with 2 fluorine atom which completes 8 electron.

\bold{\mathrm{OF}_{4}} molecule is theoretically not possible.

Option: C

Explanation:

  • The no of electron in oxygen is 8. The electron is concentrated in two orbital. S and p orbital. Hence the no of electron in ‘s’ orbital is 2 and that in p orbital is 6.
  • The number of vacancy is two. The number of electrons to be accepted in this element is 4.
  • Hence there is no provision for acceptance of the electrons. Hence in case of this compound two electrons cannot be accommodated.
  • All the other compounds are possible since the maximum number of fluorine per oxygen is two or more.
