( iv )

5a + 4 = 3a - 8

5a - 3a = - 8 - 4

2a = - 12

a = - 6

Therefore, -6 is the number satisfying the equation.

( v )

5( 1 - 2x ) + 4( 2 - x ) = - 29

5 - 10x + 8 - 4x = - 29

5 + 8 - 10x - 4x = - 29

13 - 14x = - 29

13 + 29 = 14x

42 = 14x

42 / 14 = x

3 = x

Therefore, 3 is the number satisfying the equation.

( vi )

( 2 - x ) + 2( 3 - 2x ) =  58

2 - x + 6 - 4x = 58

2 + 6 - x - 4x = 58

8 - 5x = 58

8 - 58 = 5x

- 50 = 5x

- 10 = x

Therefore - 10 is the number satisfying the equation.
