The principle applied in working of atom bomb is "nuclear fission".

EXPLANATION:

There are two type of nuclear reaction one is nuclear fission and other is nuclear fusion.

In nuclear fission a large number of small particles combine to get a single parent particle  when when reacted will spread out into different forms.

In nuclear fusion a single parent particle is reacted and thus different form of particles are produced .

So for the application of atom bomb nuclear fission is used as particles are combine together initially as when the blast occurs different particles are spread out.
