NH4Cl is a salt of a weak base and strong acid so, when we dissolved in water it will hydrolyze.

• NH4Cl dissolved in water undergoes hydrolysis to deliver free hydrogen ions.

• When dissolved in water it produces NH+ ions and OH- ions.

• In water, the hydrogen ions break into H+ and OH- ions. Cl ion will react accordingly.

• NH4 Cl +H2O --------> NH4OH + HCl

Hydrolysis reaction is

NH4+ + Cl- + H2O -----> NH4OH + H + Cl-
