To control the fire reduce the heat supply (option c).

  • Fire is caused when the fuel is heated up at or above its ignition temperature.
  • Ignition temperature is the least temperature fuel can achieve to start the combustion process
  • On reducing the heat supply the temperature of fuel decreases below the ignition temperature, which stops the fire.

The other given options are not a good choice because:

  • An increase in fuel supply will further aggravate the fire.
  • An increase in oxygen supply will keep the combustion process on and will not stop a fire.
  • An increase in nitrogen supply also does not guarantee to put off fire because it cannot replace oxygen completely which is the main source of combustion.
  • Hence, reducing heat supply is the correct option.
