Explanation:

a)Yes, sponge is a solid. Although sponge has small pores which traps air however it releases the same when the sponge is pressed and by this we are able to compress it. This helps the sponge to regain its shape and mass. Similarly, rubber band is also solid as git has definite shape and volume.

b)Yes, a rubber band can change its shape when a force is applied to it and can regain its shape when the force is removed. It is solid in nature but upon the application of force, the shape can change due to the elastic nature of the rubber band.

c)The mass per unit volume of a substance is called density (density = mass/ volume). Arrange the following in order of increasing density− air, exhaust from chimneys, honey, water, chalk, cotton and iron.

d)From all these observations we can say, the common name for gas and liquid is fluid.
