Correct Option:-B. Chromosomes separate during anaphase due to the interaction of polar microtubules from opposite poles pushing against each other
Answer:
Statement in option B. is incorrect "Chromosomes separate during anaphase due to the interaction of polar microtubules from opposite poles pushing against each other"
Explanation:
Mitosis is a cell division process in which a single eukaryotic cell splits into two daughter cells that are identical. Because each of the two daughter cells generated during mitosis receives the same number of chromosomes as the parent, the process is known as equational division. Hence, the daughter cells contain the same genetic material as of parent. It consists of 4 phases, that are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. During prophase, the nuclear membrane disintegrates and asters move at two poles. They assemble themselves at the metaphase place during metaphase. At the onset of anaphase, the centromeres split. A nuclear membrane emerges around each pair of chromosomes during telophase. During anaphase of mitosis, homologous chromosomes do not synapse. They do, however, synapse during prophase I of meiosis. In mitosis, homologous chromosomes are self-contained.
