S- Block elements are good reducing agents.

  • S- block elements do not form coloured complexes as their ionisation energy is very high, making excitability of electrons hard. Coloured complexes are characteristic of d-block elements.
  • S - block elements are not very heavy elements. In fact they are the lightest elements in their respective period due to low nuclear charge.
  • S- block heavier elements do not show many variable oxidation states due to presence of only 1 valence electron.
  • S- block elements are good reducing agents because they have only 1 extra electron from achieving noble element configuration. Thus they can easily lose their valence electron and reduce other elements.

Hence option (3) They are good reducing agents is correct.
