Limestone is added to acidic soil in order to make it neutral.

  • Sometimes, the pH of soil may get reduced leading to formation of acidic soil which may hamper the growth of crops.

  • So, farmers can utilise this acid by a process called "LIMING OF SOIL".

  • One of the most common economical chemical used in this process is known as Limestone.

  • Limestone is actually calcium carbonate with the chemical formula CaCO_{3}. It is alkaline in solution and helps to reduce acidity of soil.

Hope It Helps.
