October Manifesto was not a factor in revolution in 1905

Explanation:

  • The Manifesto of October is a document which was the predecessor of the first Russian Constitution, adopted in 1906, by the Russian Empire, the following year. On 30 October 1905, as a response to the revolution of Russia in 1905, the manifesto of the Russian Revolution in 1905 was issued by Czar Nicholas II, under the influence of Sergei Witte.
  • Nicholas opposed these ideas strongly, but gave the choice to head a military dictatorship. Grand Duke Nicholas had threatened to kill himself if the Tsar would not accept Witte's suggestion.
  • Nicholas agreed, and issued a so-called October Manifesto with reluctance, promising fundamental civil rights and the Duma elected Parliament, without the approval of which no laws should be enacted in Russia.
  • Between 1904 to 1905, the Russian-Japanese war began as a result of a desire both for conquest and hegemony by Japan and Russia in Korea and Manchuria. Russia's military collapse added fuel to the revolution of 1905, as it made Russians aware of its military's weakness and ashamed of its Russian position.
  • On January 22, 1905, Father Gapon led a march to give a petition to the Tsar. Thousands of workers participated  in this peaceful protest. This demonstration of factory workers, however,  was cruelly and brutally put down by Russian soldiers. Up to 200 people were killed by Cossack and rifle fire  charges. This event was  known as Blody Sunday and is also  one of the major causes of the 1905 Revolution. The outcome was a short-lived revolt in which the Tsar lost control of several areas in Russia
  • Russian workers were the most strike-prone in Europe during the 1900s. Three-quarters of the factory workforce went on strike in the revolutionary years of 1905-6
