Africa was colonized by the British during 1870s-1900. During this time, the European trade flourished and African resources were exploited. European lifestyle and traditions were introduced in Africa.

Africa was affected by the British rule politically, socially, and economically. The effects were:

(i) Introduction of European Language: European languages were made official language in Africa as the government was under Europeans.

(ii) Establishment of Educational Institutes: Western education was promoted in Africa. To fulfill the needs of the colonials, educational institutes were opened which had European curriculum.

(iii) African Colonies: Africans were enslaved by the Europeans and their colonies were built along the arbitrary lines. They were under the European control and were supposed to follow their rules.
