Distance cannot be negative ever because it is a scalar quantity. Displacement can be negative.

Hey!
Distance can never ever be negative. It's always positive. But displacement has possibility to be negative, positive, zero.
Displacement will be positive , when suppose , we move from A-B , distance is 15m, and we just move to A-B, and as we know that displacement is shortest distance travelled, thus , displacement is 15m positive.
Displacement is zero when the starting and ending point is same. Suppose we started from A and end up on A.
Displacement is negative when suppose , I moved 18m from A-B, and then moved 20m back to A, clearly I moved 2m extra behind A, thus displacement is negative.
Hope it helps...!!!
