Hydrogen and deuterium are the isotopes of H-atom. In hydrogen, 1 proton and zero neutron is present while in deuterium, 1 proton and 1 neutron is present.

Isotopes of an element has same atomic number, different mass number.

Deuterium is also known as heavy isotope due to its higher mass number than hydrogen. So, rate of reaction is greater for hydrogen than deuterium as its collision rate is higher. Due to is large mass, collision of particles in deuterium atom is slower, hence, rate is also low.
