algae are a large , diverse group of photosynthesis organisms that are not necessarily found to be closely related.
they are polyphyletic.

protozoa on the other hand are eukaryotes that are either free living or parasitic.

They feed on natural matter suchas other single tissue.

thus algae is closer to plants since it contains chlorophyll just like plants.
