Only the pieces like 
bishop move diagonally for attacking and it can come backwards also diagonally and for moving front also it moves diagonally it can't move any side other than diagonal 
pawn move front at the beginning the pawn starts with 2 steps it can move and it can move 1 step too. so,for attacking only the pawn moves diagonally and a pawn cannot move in backward direction.
king it can move in all directions with one or two steps only it can move diagonally also .and king is the main piece in the game of chess. 
queen it can move in an directions until it can move.it can move diagonally also.it is the second main piece in the game of chess.
