(D) 82 grams of dinitrogen
GIVEN
(A) 2.5 g molecule of N,
(B) 4g atom of nitrogen
(C) 3.01 x 10²⁴ atoms
(D) 82 g of dinitrogen
TO FIND
Which of the substances contain maximum number of molecules.
SOLUTION
We can simply solve the above problem as follows;
We know that,
Molar mass of substance = 1 mole of substance = Nₐ
Where,
Nₐ = 6.022 × 10²³ .
(1) 2.5 g molecule of N₂
Molecular mass of N₂ = 28 grams
Number of molecules in 28 grams of N₂ = Nₐ
So,
Number of molecules in 2.5 grams of N₂ = (2.5/28)× Nₐ
= 0.08Nₐ
Number of molecules in 0.08 mole of N₂ = 0.08Nₐ
(2) 4g atom of nitrogen gas
We know that,
28 gram atom of N₂ = Nₐ
4 gram atom of N₂ = (Nₐ/28)×4 =
0.14 Nₐ
(3) 3.01 x 10²⁴ atoms
(4) 82 g of dinitrogen
28 grams of N₂ = Nₐ
82 grams of dinitrogen = (82/28)Nₐ = 2.92 Nₐ
We can observe that 82 gram of dinitrogen contains maximum molecules.
