when we inhale atmospheric air then that air goes to lungs(alveoli) and exchange of gases take place where CO2 from blood diffuse into air and air's O2 diffuses into blood. All this process takes place in lungs.

hence, the diffusion of gases first takes place in lungs between blood and atmospheric air.

as we know that each and every cell/tissue needs blood to obtain nutrition and oxygen.

so, after the first diffusion in lungs(which is mentioned above) the oxygen present in blood is transported to all parts of body I.e. to each cells/tissue. At this time once again diffusion happens in which CO2 from cell/tissue diffuses into blood and O2 from blood diffuse into cells so that they could do respiration to obtain energy.

this time the diffusion takes place in between the blood and cell/tissue.
