Answer:

Option a) Hemichordata is not the sub-phylum of Chordata. Whereas option b) Tunicata c) Cephalochordata and d) Urochordata, all are the sub-phylum of chordates.

Explanation: Chordata

  • Subphylum Hemichordata- Previously they are considered the lowest Chordates But recently it is found that the so-called notochord of the hemichordates is not a true notochord but a stomochord. Therefore, they were removed from the chordates and are now treated as an independent invertebrate phylum. Example- Balanoglossus, saccoglossus.
  • Subphylum Urochodata is also called Tunicata- They have a notochord and nerve cord present only in the tadpole-like larva. adult are sac-like, often sessile, and are encased in a protective tunic. Example- Salpa, Doliolum, etc.
  • Subphylum Cephalochordata- Notochord and nerve chord are present throughout the life of an organism and along the entire length. Example- Lancelet or Amphioxus.
