Sponges have an exoskeleton that is made up of either spongin fibers or calcareous/siliceous spicules or a combination of both. True spongin fibers are found only in the members of class Demospongias. All sponges have perforated body. Choanocytes are present in all sponges, lining the spongocoel and canals.
