bcz it shows the highest extension of overlapping...

higher the overlapping of electron clouds....stronger will be the bond formed...

see the image...and try to visualize it...

in s orbital the clouds are generally nodal the electron finding is very less...

but in p orbitals they are directional..they'll have electrons in the overlapping region....
