Maximum biodiversity in our country is at -
(c) Eastern Himalaya and Western Ghats
India has four biodiversity hotspots: the Himalayas, the Western Ghats, the Indo-Burma region and the Sundaland (Includes Nicobar group of Islands).
Hotspots of biodiversity are the region with large diversity in their areas and with equally high risk of habitat destruction too from humans.
There are two criteria's for a region to be declared biodiverse in nature -
region should have at least 1500 plant species endemic in nature, which means atleast 1500 species should be only found in that particular region.
Region should also have lost 70% of its primary vegetation.
