Legumes are one of the most important harvested plants which we consume due to their high nitrogenous composition which is good for our health.

The fixation of nitrogen by the legumes are mainly operated by different bacterias which live in the different parts of the roots of the legumes which are simply known as the nodules.

For this reason, the option 1 is the correct statement.

Answer:

correct answer is 1)Legume fix nitrogen only through the specialised bacteria that live in their roots .

Explanation:

Legume nitrogen fixation starts with the formation of a nodule . The rhizobia bacteria in the soil invade the root and multiply within its cortex cells. The plant supplies all the necessary nutrients and energy for the bacteria. Within a week after infection, small nodules are visible with the naked eye . In the field, small nodules can be seen 2–3 weeks after planting, depending on legume species and germination conditions. When nodules are young and not yet fixing nitrogen, they are usually white or gray inside.
