Syzygy is a straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies (the sun, the earth, and either the moon or a planet) in a gravitational system.

All eclipses are Syzygy.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between our planet and the sun. Syzygy conjunction causes a solar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, blocking the sunlight falling on the Moon. Syzygy opposition causes a lunar eclipse.

The perihelion is the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid or comet that is nearest to the sun. It is the opposite of aphelion, which is the point farthest from the sun
