Option (a) 3:4 is the smallest ratio.

To find :

Smallest ratio from the following : ( 3:4, 5:6, 7:8, 17:15 )

Given :

3:4, 5:6, 7:8, 17:15

To find the smallest ratio divide the terms.

Finding value for 3:4

                  \frac{3}{4}  = 0.75

Finding value for 5:6

                  \frac{5}{6} = 0.83

Finding value for 7:8

                  \frac{7}{8} = 0.875

Finding value for 17:15

                 \frac{17}{15}  = 1.13

Thus, the smallest ratio is 3:4.

The smaller ratio is 3:4

  • At first we have to take the lcm of the denominators. The denominators are 4,6,8 and 15 respectively.
  • The lcm of 4,6,8 and 15 is 120. Now we have to multiply 120 in all four fractions to order them.
  • Multiplying by 120 we get 90, 100, 105 and 136 respectively.
  • Here the smaller number is 90 which corresponds to the ratio 3:4.
  • Hence the smaller ratio amongst the given ratios is 3:4.
  • Hence option (a) is correct.
