Refraction. It is the change in the direction of a wave that passes from one medium and enters into another or from a slow change within a medium.

A refraction of light is a common phenomenon but then, other waves like water waves and sound waves also undergo refraction.

The refraction of a wave is found out by the deviation in wave speed and the starting direction of the wave direction relative to the change of speed direction.

In case of light, refraction usually follows the Snell's law that states, "for a described pair of media, the sine ratio of the angle of incidence θ1 and angle of refraction θ2 is equal to the ratio of phase velocities (v1 / v2) of the two media, or in equal terms, to the refraction indices (n2 / n1) of the two given media.
