The pharynx of the leech acts as the suction pump for blood from the body of the host.

The leech gets attached to the body of the host with the help of links which are present on the body of the leech on both sides. These links not only help the leech to attach to the body of host but also help it in movement.

Once the blood is sucked by the pharynx, it gets mixed with Hirudin, which is produced by the salivary glands of the leech in order to prevent coagulation of blood.
