this is very much confusing question we always in the diaphgram is the organ but that is is not the answer because it after I'm just a flattens and just it to reduce the space taken by itself but with the main reason for expansion of Reliance a large number of alveoli present inside they are flexible so when the lungs have smaller surface area than the contracts and when typhoid become flat and then lungs is also stretchable so really the release of some enzymes alveoli just expand and due to expansion of alveoli the volume of lungs increases so and this is the main reason please don't misunderstand it by writing diaphgram

The alveoli present in the lungs provide
maximum surface for exchange of gases .
The alveoli have vary thin walls and
contain an extensive network of blood
vessels to facilitate exchange of gases .
