The hip bones are consisting of two bones, namely, Os Coxae with are articulating with the sacrum. The Os Coxae are the bones which are comprising and composed of pairs of three fused bones, namely; ilium, ischium and pubis.

The bones of hips are protecting our lower abdominal area or the region consisting of reproductive organs (Gonads like ovaries and testis), the urinary organs (kidney, urinary bladder, etc.), and have the function of providing partial protection or half-protection of the intestines. In all it does the (hip bone) protection of internal organs.

In a female reproductive system the urinary bladder, some parts of the colon, the rectum and the anus are protected by pelvis or hip bone. It forms the lower end of the backbone or the vertebral column and opens into a large open-bowl-like structure which also supports the upper part or the anterior and upper abdominal region of the body and all the organs below the waist.
