The "legislature" is the "organ of the government" that frames the laws for a "political body" such as a "country or city". They form an important part of the government in power sharing models and are  often in contrast with the other two branches of the government : executive and judiciary.  The laws which are enacted by legislature are known as "primary legislation". "Members of the legislature" are called as "legislators".
