Epiglottis is the cartilagenous flap situated over the glottis which further leads to trachea.
When we swallow the food Epiglottis shuts the passage for the food to enter the wind pipe. It is an involuntary action. It's functioning is regulated by the digestive, respiratory and the nervous system.
