Which organisms are called as the universal food provider ?why?

Plants (the green ones) are known as the universal food providers. This is because green plants are the only organisms (except some really small and scarce microorganisms) which are able to produce food through the process of photosynthesis.
And this food acts as the nutrition for ALL the other organisms of Earth.
