Autotrophs are greater in number. Because they need only natural things, which are available in large quantity, for feeding. Their population increases with fast rate. If we take the example of autotrophic bacteria, we can assume the number of autotrophs. While, heterotrophics are dependent on autotrophs. So their population also directly or indirectly deepens on autotrophics. Also some autotrophs can survive in adverse climate.
