The uterus and most specifically the endometrium. The changes that occur in the endometrium is what is known as the endomentrial cycle or the menstrual cycle.

The uterus prepares every month to receive a fertilized egg. This occurs as a result of the proliferation of the endometrial wall.  The glands of the endometrium proliferate due to increased cellular division - elongating. There is also an increase in the vascularization ( increase capillary formation).

If fertilization occurs, the fertilized egg embeds itself in the endometrial wall and is nourished. It then develops for the next nine months to a matured fetus.

If fertilization does not occur, then the uterus sheds all the tissues in the functional zone formed. This is what forms the menses phase. The uterus then again start the process of reorganizing itself in preparation for a possible fertilization in about 4 weeks time.

Answer:

The uterus is the female reproductive part that prepares itself every month to receive the male germ cell and nurture a growing child.

The inner linings of the uterus thicken, and a plentiful supply of blood is flown to nourish the embryo.

However, if the fertilization does not take place, the menstrual period starts.
